Starke Circuit Court Judge Kim Hall rejected a plea agreement for Robert Reed in a hearing yesterday.
Robert Reed and the state had come up with an agreement where Reed would plead guilty to charges of Receiving Stolen Property and Resisting Law Enforcement and would serve 36 months with no part of that sentence suspended. He would also enter into work release once his time was served.
Reed is currently serving time in the Department of Corrections on a Burglary charge out of LaPorte County and his sentence in Starke Circuit Court would run consecutively with his LaPorte County sentence.
Judge Hall rejected the agreement in order to confirm that the Starke County sentence would run consecutively to the LaPorte County sentence and to re-negotiate the agreement. A status hearing was set for October 11 at 9:00 a.m. to revisit the plea agreement.
Robert Reed’s charges stem from an incident on May 22, 2011, when officers responded to a theft report in San Pierre and soon pulled over a motorcycle carrying two people, who quickly fled from police before abandoning the motorcycle near Toto Road and fled on foot. Murriah Dailey, who was with Robert Reed at the time of the incident, was soon apprehended, but gained control of the police vehicle in which she was placed and tried to escape and strike officers with the vehicle. She was unsuccessful and was again apprehended with Reed.
