The Kankakee Valley Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #129 will be holding the second annual Shop with a Cop event on Sunday, August 5 at the ALCO store in Knox.
F.O.P. President Chris Kisela talks about the event.
“We get names of children that might need assistance and we take them shopping,” said Kisela. “We spend an average of $100 to $150 per child. This year, we’re hoping to help 40 children.”
Kisela explains why the F.O.P. does this event in August instead of around the Christmas holiday.
“Our F.O.P. elected to do it for to help the children with school clothes and school supplies,” said Kisela. “It’s a little bit more meaningful. We provide things for the children like a new backpack, blue jeans, t-shirts and shoes.”
The Kankakee Valley Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #129 consists of members from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department, Knox City Police Department, North Judson Police Department, Indiana State Police, and Conservation Officers from the Department of Natural Resources.
