The West Central School Board reviewed the estimated state tuition support for the 2013 budget and according to Superintendent Charles Mellon, it appears the corporation is going to take another funding hit.
“We find ourselves down another $155,000, which is a little over 2.5 percent,” said Mellon. “Again, these are just based on projections. You have to plug in your own numbers with enrollment projections and that type of thing.”
The corporation has lost hundreds of thousands of tuition support since 2008.
“I looked back to 2008, the last time property tax helped with the General Fund. In 2009, the General Fund was taken over by the state, but since that time we’ve lost about $900,000 going into the 2013 budget. For a small corporation, that’s quite a hit. That’s why we have to look at what our needs are compared to what our wants are and try to manage as best we can,” Mellon explained.
