The Knox Community School Board spotlights one positive event going on within the school corporation during the school board meetings. On Monday, Mr. Sullivan from the Graphic Arts program at the High School talked about his program and the equipment the students get to utilize while in class. Superintendent A.J. Gappa said Mr. Sullivan talked about some of the upgrades and additions to the program.

“He told the Board about the new Exopress that was donated to the school and it actually came from Winnepeg, Canada,” explained Superintendent Gappa. “It’s a new and upcoming division of the graphics world and printing world. They can do all kinds of things from printing on plastic wrappers and making tags and everything else that you see in commercial stores. With all of the advances in new technology, we’re going to be in the forefront of that area for our students.”

Mr. Sullivan also brought a few items to show the board.

“He had three students that had created a map of the school complex and they had a three-dimensional map that showed the schools and what streets their located on, all of the surrounding buildings including some of the commercial buildings around them. They gave directions and street names so people can understand where the buildings are around the school and they also made it in a way that they can be emailed to other schools. When other people are coming here, if they had to go to certain buildings, certain gymnasiums or athletic fields, they can have a map that shows them exactly how to get there.”

If the students meet certain standards, they can be nationally certified in the graphic arts program. Knox Community Schools is one of only a few schools in the state that qualifies for that distinction.
