On this date in 1975, the Dedication Service for the new North Judson-San Pierre High School was held.

On this date in 1984, the doors closed at American Home Foods in LaPorte putting 600 people out of work. Many of them were from Starke County.

On this date in 1996, the Knox Junior Redskins Football Association was welcoming new football coach, Tim Gault.

On this date in 2000, Starke United honored numerous volunteers for their efforts on the annual campaign. Honored were Campaign Chairman Terry Kimmel and campaign leaders Kathy Norem and Kathy Robb.

On this date in 2004, Jan Moore, a Winamac teacher was honored for receiving a Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science. She was one of two teachers in the state, and 95 nationwide to receive the award. A convocation to honor her was held on April 6th, 2004.

The twinkie was invented on this day in 1930 by Bakery Executive, James Dewar. The cream-filled cake was developed in order to use small baking pans that would otherwise remain in storage except for each year’s brief strawberry shortcake season.
