Betty and George Dotlich Appear before Starke County Commissioners

Starke County Commissioners: Kathy Norem, Dan Bridegroom and Jennifer Davis

Betty and George Dotlich appeared before the Starke County Commissioners this week seeking answers to questions about a possible Board of Review session.

The pair have inquired before about a Board of Review hearing to examine the details of a permit issued to Julia Ford to place a structure next to their residence in rural Grovertown.

County Attorney Martin Lucas said, “Unfortunately, we don’t have a rule book that’s been adopted for the Board of Review.” There has never been an appeal made to the Board of Review which is made up of the three commissioners.

Commission President, Kathy Norem, asked Lucas to create a written pronouncement on how the board operates.

Mr. and Mrs. Dotlich have been seeking a ruling that would overturn the permit given by Building Inspector, Bruce Williams, which allowed the structure to be placed on property owned by Ford. The placement of the structure is next to the Dotlich home.

The BZA Board recently denied an appeal to revoke the permit on a unanimous vote.
