Waylon Anderson, of Knox, was arrested Monday after he was allegedly found to have broken into a garage and stole a toolbox.
A Knox City Police officer found Anderson jogging in the area of Shield and Washington Streets wearing a hooded sweatshirt and gloves. The officer tried to get his attention and he didn’t look at the officer. The officer got out of the car and was jogging behind Anderson and Anderson was told to stop. Anderson reportedly gathered speed and a foot pursuit ensued. The officer did stop Anderson and found a fixed blade knife in his possession. He was placed into custody. When police looked around the area from which Anderson came, they found a toolbox and tools. The name on the toolbox was that of a deceased person and the officer went to a relative’s home to inquire about the toolbox. Winston Martin, Sr. said the toolbox was now in his possession but it had been in his garage. When they went out to the garage, they found a broken window and a drill laying outside. It appeared that Anderson had broken into the garage and stole the toolbox.
Martin told police that Anderson had been a tenant a couple of years ago and had also allegedly stolen some other tools from him before he was evicted from the residence. Anderson was arrested and he has preliminary charges of Burglary, Theft, Criminal Mischief and Resisting Law Enforcement. He also had an active arrest warrant.
