Uncontested Candidates Will Not Appear on November Ballot

Knox Mayor Rick Chambers won’t be on the ballot this November. Same way with Clerk-Treasurer Jeff Houston and Knox City Council Democrat candidates Ron Parker, Linda Berndt, Greg Matt, and Jeff Berg. Even Republican candidate Knox City Judge Charles Hasnerl might be off the ballot, too.

A new Indiana law is stripping the names of unopposed candidates on the ballots. The ballot provision cleared the General Assembly this spring. It took effect July 1st.

Starke County Clerk Evelyn Skronski confirmed yesterday that there will be only one race Knox voters will consider and seeing only one race may confuse a lot of voters. All of the unopposed candidates will not appear on the ballot. In Knox there will be only one entry on the ballot, Thom Morin against Don Kring for a Council seat.
