Knox-Center Township Fire Department Celebrates 100 Years

In 1911, the Knox Fire Department came into existence. The first Fire Chief went on to become the Governor of Indiana. Knox’s first Fire Chief was none other than Henry F. Schricker.

To celebrate the 100 year Anniversary of the Fire Department, the current volunteer firemen are planning a huge celebration.

It all begins Saturday morning with an 11:00 a.m. corn and sausage roast dinner at the Southside Firehouse. Inside you’ll find various memorabilia and photos to view.

Children are invited to come in their swimming suits as there will be a giant 20 X 45 foot water slip and slide and a moonwalk.

On Sunday following a pancake breakfast, there will be a fire truck and emergency vehicle parade down Main Street from the Southside Fire Station on Claybaugh Drive and it will travel to Mound Street.  The parade will begin at 1:00 p.m.

Mark Smith of the volunteer Fire Department tells us about one more exciting part of the parade.

“The parade will be led by a Med Flight helicopter and followed by a Samaritan helicopter,” said Smith.

Former Fire Chief, Pete Corey, will be the parade’s Grand Marshall.
