Nathan VanDerAa Appears in Starke Circuit Court

Nathan VanDerAa

A status hearing regarding the violation of Nathan VanDerAa’s probation was held in Starke Circuit Court Friday. VanDerAa admitted to five violations of his probation, including an arrest in Pulaski County that he did not report for possession of methamphetamine as well as driving while suspended, failure to complete community service, and an overdue balance owed to the probation department. He has also not completed his drug abuse prevention evaluation and did not report to probation as directed.

VanDerAa was originally sentenced to one year of probation and 60 days suspended in Starke County Jail after he accepted a plea agreement, pleading guilty to one count of Operating a Vehicle with at least 0.8 BAC. One count of Possession of a Controlled Substance was dismissed. Because of his violations, Judge Kim Hall invoked his 60 day sentence, terminated his probation unsatisfactorily, and told him that if he returns to his court room, he will be sent to jail and will no longer qualify for probation. However, VanDerAa received 19 days credit for time served, and his expected release date is July 5.

Additionally, VanDerAa currently has a case pending in Pulaski County with multiple felony counts.
