LaPorte Woman Charged with Attempted Murder

A LaPorte woman has been arrested in Starke County on charges of Attempted Murder, Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle, Motor Vehicle Theft and Battery on a Police Officer after a pursuit incident in the San Pierre area late Sunday night.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, officers responded to a report of a theft in San Pierre.  An officer initiated a traffic stop on a motorcycle occupied by two people on County Road 750 West, just North of State Road 10.  While on the traffic stop, the subjects fled from the officer on the motorcycle.  The officer pursued the subjects on 750 West before the subjects went off the roadway and abandoned the motorcycle at the intersection of 750 West and Toto Road.  The subjects then fled on foot.  The female subject, Murriah Dailey, 23, of LaPorte, was apprehended.  Dailey was placed in a North Judson police vehicle.  While in the car, she was able to take control of the car and attempted to drive away.  Dailey attempted to hit officers with the vehicle, but was unsuccessful.  The vehicle was fired upon and disabled.  She was tazed by officers to gain compliance.  She was treated at IU Health Starke Hospital and was released and transported to the Starke County Jail.  The male subject is still at large.

The Starke County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the North Judson, Hamlet and Knox City Police Departments, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department, LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department, Lake County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police and Starke County EMS.  The incident remains under investigation.
