At least ten of the people arrested in the cock fighting raid that occurred in Starke County in late February still have not had their day in Knox City Court. Those cases where the defendants announced in court that they were securing attorneys have yet to be settled. According to court documents, those defendants are trying to work out settlements through their attorneys with the prosecutor’s office. If that is not worked out, trial dates will be set and those could occur in July.
Also, a dozen of the defendants have yet to settle their $544.00 day-in-court costs. Of that $544.00, $200.00 was a fine, $164.00 was court costs, and $180 was for restitution. The restitution was to be paid to the Starke County Humane Society for euthanizing the cock fighting birds.
According to the court report, to date, over $3,000 has been paid to the Starke County Humane Society.
69 defendants were part of those hauled into court after the raid that was held at a rural location west of North Judson.
