Porter-Starke Addictions Counselor to Present Program on Relapse

Porter-Starke Addictions Councilor, Leo Smith, will conduct a seminar today at 11:30 a.m. CT at the Knox Community Center. His topic will be relapse.

Smith was asked if it’s true that most people who begin a recovery process relapse before becoming successful.

“Unfortunately, there’s a lot of people who have tried to get clean in the past that will relapse back into use,” said Smith. “However, that’s not a requirement to get clean. I’ve heard it said by some and I hear these stories around where people say you have to get high in order to get clean. I don’t believe that. I believe that a person can stay clean if armed with knowledge and tools. If they make that decision to get clean and sober, they never have to use again if they know what it is they’re fighting with.”

Leo Smith will be in again tomorrow to comment on the topic of relapse. That program today is at 11:30 a.m. CT at the Knox Community Center.

Anyone who is dealing with addiction, or anyone attempting to help a family member or friend is welcome to attend.
