83 Year Old Shoots Masked Pulaski County Female Burglar In Head

On 2-28-11 at approximately 2:00A.M. Carl Williams age 83 called
911. He reported that he had just shot someone in his home who had
just broken in. The Pulaski County Sherffi’s Office and Winamac
Police responded. It was determined later that a suspect had been
shot but was able to flee the scene in a car.

Pulaski County Detectives were called out to the scene also. It was
determined that force was used to enter the locked rear door.
Williams heard the suspects breaking in. He grabbed his handgun and
went to investigate. When he turned on the light he was confronted
by an intruder dressed in dark clothing wearing a ski mask.
He immediately shot at the suspect who fell to the floor. The suspect
fled while Williams was calling 911.

Detectives were then informed that a female subject had been admitted
to Logansport Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the head.
She was brought to the hospital by another female friend. This
friend’s name is Kayla Mc Cord age 19 of Logansport. McCord was
questioned by Cass and Pulaski County Detectives. She admitted her
involvement in burglarizing a home located on C.R. 200 S. just west
of the Fulton County line in Pulaki County. She stated that she was
with Erica Richie age 24 of Logansport.
McCord stated that after burglarizing this home they went to the home
of Carl Williams. At this location Richie forced her way into the
home by breaking the rear door and climbing through the window.
Richie was shot after she entered the home. McCord confirmed that
Richie was wearing a ski mask and also had a pellet handgun in her
possession. After Riche was shot they both fled and went to
Logansport Memorial for treatment. Richie was then transferred to
Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne where she is being treated for her
injuries. McCord was arrested on two counts of Burglary, a Class B
Felony, where she remains incarcerated.

Pulaski County Authorities were assisted by the Cass County Sheriff’s
Office and the Indiana State Police.
