Texting While Driving is Gaining the Attention of Indiana Legislators

Over 30 states have some type of ban on texting while driving, but not Indiana. That may change soon because legislators are being made aware of the dangers of driving and texting.

The National Safety Administration estimates that 5,870 Americans were killed last year on the nation’s highways will being distracted while they drove. 71 percent of adults 18-29 admit to texting while driving. Texting, even for 5 seconds, at 55 miles per hour means you have covered the length of a football field while you have your hands on your phone.

People on cell phones have the same response time as those under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Students Against Destructive Decisions would like to see a ban on cellphone use, and texting, while behind the wheel of a vehicle.
