Knox Students and Volunteers Assemble Kiwanis Food Baskets for Friday Delivery

Members of the Knox Student Council, National Honor Society and dedicated volunteers separate the donated food into groups before assembling baskets

Members of the Knox Student Council, National Honor Society and dedicated volunteers assembled food baskets, Thursday, at the Community Services of Starke County building for the less fortunate families in Knox. Students and members of the Knox Kiwanis Club will distribute food to those families in Knox.

“This is just a great event,” said Knox High School Assistant Principal, Michael Bendicsen. “What’s great about it is the collaboration where we can get Elementary, Middle and High School together with the Kiwnanis organization and everybody working together to do this.  Donations were taken and then we went to local establishments to purchase food.  Donations there were brought in are being separated right now and distributed.”

Mr. Bendicsen added that at least 150 families are being assisted this year.  “That number may go up before it’s all done.  We did get quite a number of requests and we’re glad that we’re going to be able to meet them all.”
