Hamlet Town Board Approves Bid for Storm Drainage Project

The Hamlet Town Board approved a bid of $571,562 from H&G Underground to improve storm drainage generally in the old downtown area of Hamlet.

A representative from Territorial Engineering informed WKVI that in the mid-1990s, a storm drain ran from the intersection of Starke and Railroad streets, north to the Benninghoff Ditch. This new project will extend that storm drain into the area by Railroad Street on the north, Starke Street on the east, Pearl Street on the south, and Hamlet Street on the west. A short section will also be extended east along Davis Street next to the Post Office to relieve drainage. Construction could begin in early 2011.
